Remembering: Tech5 Paul Walter Beck , U.S. Army (Oct 26, 1922-Apr 16, 2009)

Paul Walter Beck, 86, formerly of Weedville, a retired U.S. postman, died Thursday (April 16, 2009)
at the Veterans Hospital of Erie.
Born Oct. 26, 1922, on Gardner Hill, Weedville, he was a son of the late Lemuel C. and Margaret Mabel Thomas Beck.
He served in the Army, Headquarters Battery 79th Field Artillery Group during World War II, where he received the
rank of Technician Fifth Grade, Army of Occupation Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and W.W.II
Victory Medal.
He was an employee of the U.S. government for more than 30 years, including his time as postmaster and in the
military. He was a life member of Ridgway Veterans of Foreign Wars, Clearfield Legion Post No. 6 and many other
organizations. He was also a resident of Veterans Home of Hollidaysburg for three years and of the Erie Soldiers
and Sailors Home for the past two years.
He is survived by two sons, Paul Richard Beck of Amazon Jungle, Peru and Donald Ray Beck of Erie; a daughter, Judith
Ann Beck Goodison of Holland, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters: Wright Sargent Beck, Beulah Beck Irwin, Elizabeth Beck
Anderson and eight to the 1917-18 epidemic. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ralph M. Geer
Funeral Home in Penfield.
