Remembering: Moses W Lucore

MOSES W. LUCORE

Company C, 42nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry

13th Pennsylvania Reserves

Lucore was 24 years old when he enrolled on May 15 and mustered in as a corporal on June 1, 1861, at Harrisburg. He was elevated from the rank of corporal to fourth sergeant in December 1861, and to first sergeant on June 14, 1863. Then Lucore was made a second lieutenant on July 1, 1863. He was promoted to first lieutenant to date from May 8, 1864. On May 31, 1864, Lucore transferred to Company C of the 190th Pennsylvania Infantry and obtained the rank of first lieutenant. He was captured near Petersburg during fighting along the Weldon Railroad on August 19, 1864. Lucore was confined at Salisbury Prison, North Carolina, until February 18, 1865, when he was sent to Richmond. He was paroled at James River, Virginia, on February 22, 1865, and sent to the hospital at Annapolis, Maryland. Lucore mustered out with that regiment on June 28, 1865. He obtained an invalid pension on November 7, 1874.
